The Waterjet Story

In December of 1998, Industrial Insulations purchased a Waterjet cutting system 12' wide by 65' long.  It incorporated high-pressure pumps, sophisticated computer controls, and liner induction motors.  These motors are similar in technology to those used for the "Maglev" or "Bullet" trains currently operating in Europe and Japan.

The actual cutting bed size is 8' 6" by 12' 8". This equipment uses water at pressures ranging from 10,000 to 50,000 psi (pounds per square inch) to cut material.  If a material can be rolled or folded, it can be cut!

How it works

The Waterjet is computer controlled, capable of high speed, and highly precise cutting.  Our Engineering Department drafts a part using a Computer Assisted Design (CAD) system.  The drawing is then converted into movement and cutting commands for the machine.  When working with soft materials, the Waterjet reaches speeds of 50-70 inches per second.  This high speed cutting is capable of achieving tolerances within 0.004 inches or 1/32 of an inch.
